Here are five ways to promote better quality sleep:

1. Maintain a regular sleep schedule: Keep a consistent sleep/wake cycle by going to bed and getting up at the same time each day, including weekends. This helps regulate the body's internal body clock and improve sleep quality.

2. Create a soothing sleep environment: Making changes such as dimming the lights or lowering the temperature in the bedroom can promote relaxation and signal to the body that it's time to sleep. It is also helpful to minimise any distractions, such as noise and light, and make your sleeping space comfortable and inviting.

3. Limit exposure to screens before bedtime: The blue light emitted from electronic devices can interfere with the body's production of melatonin, which is essential to regulating the sleep/wake cycle. It is recommended to stop using electronic devices 30-60 minutes before going to bed.

4. Establish a relaxing bedtime routine: Engage in calm activities such as meditation, taking a warm bath, or reading a book to help relax the mind and prepare for sleep. This routine can help signal to the body that it's time to enter into sleep mode.

5. Practice healthy lifestyle habits: Engage in regular exercise during the day, avoid caffeine, and limit alcohol and nicotine intake. All of these lifestyle changes can help promote a healthy sleep cycle.

By implementing these strategies, individuals can create an optimal environment for better sleep and improve the quality of their sleep, leading to better mental and physical health.
